This group has made available a huge number of texts which have outlasted their copyright, and thus are free to be published by anyone. Some of these texts are very old, however, so the translation might not always sound natural to a modern reader. That notwithstanding, there are not, so far as we know, any comparable collections of texts available completely without charge (with the possible exception of the Perseus Digital Library).

We strongly recommend you browse the Gutenberg Project, in order to get a sense of the sheer scale of the endeavour, and if you are able to make a donation to their running costs, please do.
