We understand the importance of community and solidarity when studying - a shared experience is often the best way to enrich it, and to bestow the feeling of being seen.

For some communities, academia has been slow to provide the tools to connect with people from similar backgrounds or with similar experiences. This is, thankfully, starting to change, and here we offer a few places for you to explore the communities with which you identify in the world of classics.

Asterion aims to help neurodivergent people in Classics in three areas: support, resources and community.

Queer and the Classical’s objective is to bring together queer researchers and artists in the field, in order to bring about new and radical ways to imagine, think, and feel future engagements with the queer and the classical.

London Classicists of Colour is a society led by a committee of UOL Classicists, hoping to create a safe space, community, and a support network for students of colour across UOL.

The Women’s Classical Committee was founded in 2015 in the United Kingdom with the aims of supporting women in classics, and promoting feminist and gender-informed perspectives in classics.

The Network for Working-Class Classicists was set up in 2021 to support people who identify as working class and who are studying, working or interested in Classics broadly conceived.

Digital Games Research Association is an international association for academics and professionals who research digital games and associated phenomena.

The University and College Union (UCU) represents over 120,000 academics, lecturers, trainers, instructors, researchers, professional staff and postgraduates in universities, colleges, prisons, adult education and training organisations across the UK.

The Classical Association is an educational charity, dedicated to making classical subjects widely accessible.

CripAntiquity is an international advocacy organization for disabled and neurodivergent students, teachers, scholars, staff, artists, and writers in ancient studies.

Other Causes

Working Classicists is a community organisation but we recognise that to be such means, on another level, to be a political organisation, too.

We are of the Left, and if that earns us the label of “Woke”, we’re fine with that. Our watchwords are equality, justice and fairness.

There are any number of causes in the wider world which move us, but here we present a handful which we would like to nudge casual browsers towards.

Justice for Palestine is a human rights organisation working in Aotearoa to promote justice, peace and freedom for the Palestinian people.
